The CAPA*1 (Centre for Aviation) has named Ibaraki Airport “The CAPA Low Cost Airport of the Year.” Governor Masaru Hashimoto represented Ibaraki Airport at the award ceremony, which was held yesterday(20th October) in Singapore.

Background

Over recent years, Ibaraki Airport has established itself as a valuable access point to northern Tokyo and to the surrounding region. It has done this by providing airline-responsive environment and supporting the operations of low cost airlines.
Also, in 2011, despite serious setbacks following the earthquake,Ibaraki has continued to provide outstanding service to the low cost airline industry.

Masaru Hashimoto, Governor of Ibaraki Prefecture Comment

We are greatly honored to be presented with the award for “The CAPA Low Cost Airport of the Year”.
We promptly paid attention to the global rise of LCC and worked out various plans so that operational costs would be reduced.
To be received this award as a Low Cost Airport shows that our efforts and our purpose itself have been recognized, and for this I am deeply pleased.
Ibaraki Prefecture experienced serious damage from the earthquake disaster. This award certainly encourages us very much.
We aim to continue making our airport even more convenient.
